MLG Providence: “The Be All End All of Competitive Gaming 2011”

Written by Chris B. and Owen K.

If you have been following the Major League Gaming sensation this season you will know that it has been a record breaking year for the company. After Sundance DiGiovanni and Mike Sepso founded Major League Gaming in 2002, nobody expected it to become the industry’s leader in streaming and live gaming events. The past year has been a big year for MLG, with record breaking stream views and record breaking attendance at live MLG events. This year’s success will come to an end this year at MLG Providence.

Taking a look back at the last four MLG events, there is an ever-prominent trend towards the growth of gaming. Since MLG Columbus in early June, viewers have increased dramatically, by over 60,000. Since MLG Columbus, the total hours of gaming viewed online jumped from 2,264,455 to 3,233,101 during MLG Orlando on the weekend of October 14th. 173 different countries viewed MLG Raleigh in August and in-person attendance stands to reach building capacity every time. These facts show the growth this company have had this year.

This weekend will bring an end to live events this year. Thousands of fans will come to the event, including three representatives from TheGameGuide. Players from around the world will participate in the events here. Over $600,000 will be awarded in prizes this weekend, with over $1 million awarded over the whole season this year.

Lets talk about this weekend. MLG Providence has three games that are played for competition, Halo: Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. Starcraft will be the majority of TheGameGuide’s coverage. The Starcraft brackets bring some of the best players in the world to the table, including Korean players such as NesTea “The God of Zerg” and MVP who is widely considered the best Terran player in the world, if not the best player in the world period. It also brings in some fan favorites, including Destiny, Boyo, and MarineKing. These players all have been known to bring some entertainment to their play styles. You can see all of their games on the MLG stream. TheGameGuide suggest you tune in for these games, as they are expected to be some of the best matches of the season. As for the Black Ops and Halo: Reach games, TheGameGuide will not be covering them directly, although we will cover the championship rounds of these games. If you wish to view those streams, they are also available on the MLG site. As for the Starcraft games, we will report all winners and other updates throughout Saturday and Sunday, on our Twitter, Facebook, and Blog. Read below for more information on TheGameGuide coverage, MLG streams, and about attending MLG Providence. One thing that will be missed is the popular Starcraft caster Daynine will not be in attendance at this championship weekend. The weekend is still expected to be a hit, and expected to bring an end to one of the best years for MLG. No matter which title you are interested in this is bound to be the tournament to end all tournaments.
