Protoss: The Road to Diamond Weeks 5-6

With the new season starting, this week was mostly full of highs, but it wasn’t without its pitfalls.  Well, one pitfall, anyway – I placed in Gold!  I briefly considered going back to Terran to fix this error of sorts, but that wouldn’t be very genuine of me now, would it? Besides, my fundamentals with Protoss are getting pretty good.  It’s my mouth-breather decision making that’s holding me back.  I’d like to hear from anyone who shares in my issue with patience when it comes to the RTS genre, because seriously, sometimes I just get to this point in a match where I just want to get it over with. That leads to throwing whatever army I have left after a big engagement at the enemy and hoping for the best. If it turns sour, I GG out and move on.  It’s horrible, I know. What’s worse is knowing that when I put my mind to it, I’m really not bad at macro games at all.  My brain just goes into cruise control.  I guess that’s what people refer to when they talk about stamina at tournaments. Protoss: The Road to Diamond Week 4

This week was kind of weird.  I didn’t face a single Terran, and all but one Zerg opponent 6-pooled me.  I’m on the fence on how I feel about cheese tactics.  I totally see what its supporters say, in that it really does test your micro and decision making skills, and that it’s often fairly effective in tournament play even if it’s just used as a psychological tool.  On the flip side, if you hold cheese off, you’re generally way behind.  I’m sure we’ve all seen the big GG once you hold off the attack, meaning it was the only move that person had.  Oh well, I suppose on ladder it just boils down to whatever’s considered fun. Protoss: The Road To Diamond Week 3

To start off…

I think I may be one of those masochistic gamers they talk about sometimes.  You know, kind of like the ones who play Dark Souls for twelve hours straight and make minimal progress?  Protoss was very fun at first, but boy is it turning out to be a huge pain in the ass.  Three weeks in, and I still can’t beat a competent Terran player.  I’d like to say that I’d rather stick sharpened pencils into my face, but that wouldn’t be true. Oh, no.  The truth is that I can’t get enough of it.  I look forward to my next loss to Terran like a kid waiting for an ice cream cone.  It’s not that I particularly enjoy losing, but it’s the biggest test I have right now.  I’m 50/50 against Zerg and Protoss, so I’m not even worried about them.  Terran is where it’s at. Protoss: The Road To Diamond

Week 2

This week pretty much kicked my ass around.  I still have yet to achieve a meaningful victory against Terran, Protoss is a tossup (pun intended), and I’ve been struggling with Platinum caliber Zergs.  It’s not exactly that the people I’m playing are doing anything fancy or different, it’s that I’m still not used to warp-ins and finding effective unit compositions.  It probably sounds like an excuse, but it’s truly frustrating when you know exactly what your opponent is doing and simply can’t throw together an army that works well.  Come on, MMM/ghost?  I see it a mile away but can’t seem to keep it under control.
