Sony sells 1.2 million PlayStation Vita units

Today Sony announced that their beefy handheld, the Vita, has sold 1.2 million units worldwide.

The system recently launched in the U.S. on Feb. 15, and had previously been available in Japan since Dec. 17. Although the Vita got off to a rocky start in Japan, Sony seems pretty confident with the handheld’s current sales numbers.

“PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reaction we’re seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling,” said Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.
